Performance: It can't be an afterthought

Premature optimization is the root of all evil. Yada, yada, yada. We all know the spiel. But that doesn't mean that it can be an afterthought.

In this talk we are going to explore how hardware constraints apply even to a language that looks as magical as ruby, how just optimizing what you have may not be good enough and how we can write faster software with a bit of forefought and analysis.

How practicing Empathy and a spirit of Ubuntu can help us better navigate today’s challenging and uncertain times

We’re living in unprecedented times. Back to back, the corona pandemic and now the war situation in Europe + the rising inflation and ongoing layoffs has not only impacted us but also our near and dear ones in various ways that we may have never imagined.

This talk is about sharing some of my experiences, learnings, observations and reflections on how cultivating and living a culture rooted in empathy and oneness as a human race through living ‘Ubuntu’ as a way of life can be instrumental to build a stronger understanding and a sense of connection among team members, such that they feel better equipped to navigate the pressure and the challenges of the current times as a software team & unit towards meeting organisational goals

Stuff found under the bed - Ruby and Rails snacks from our codebase

What I found when starting to work on a 16 year old, living codebase. Interesting, awesome, weird, nice and clever (good or bad) bits of production code served with comments. (actually this talk was already held in september 2023)
