Fortunately, maths: a systematic approach to engineering management
As engineers, we pride ourselves on building and continuously improving software systems that work. When it comes to organizing our teams and our working processes, though, we often leave this thinking at the door.
In this talk, we'll look at the ways in which queuing theory governs the behaviour of software development processes. We'll understand: why a team that is working 100% of the time is not efficient; when planning ahead is counterproductive; how to organize a development process that delights engineers and business people.
Monadic design: It's too dangerous to go alone
In this talk we'll learn how using monadic design can lead to more fault-tolerant systems and cleaner code. This talk will not go deep on the mathematics of monads and monoids but instead will focus on showing that we can take advantage of concepts without the complete mathematical background
